Rowden benefit set for Saturday at Oak Grove Church
Life-long Shellsburg community member Janine Rowden has faced an ongoing battle with Multiple Sclerosis. This battle comes with many challenges including limited mobility. To aid in her fight for independence, Oak Grove Christian Church is hosting a benefit to raise funds for a chair-lift enabled van and an automatic door opening system for their home.

The deviled eggs were in the details for the Center Point Friends of the Library at its regular meeting October 3 at the Library.
The group made specific plans for its fall fund raiser, “A Taste in Time,” Saturday, November 9 from 9 to 1 in the Library basement. It will be a tasting party and a cookbook sale. There will be hands on cooking classes for kids and an apron display.
Halloween Costume Contest for Pets, Oct. 26
Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 26 and come down to our store to enjoy our second Halloween Costume Contest! Registration begins at 12:30 and the contest starts at 1:00! Friends of the Shelter is located at 211 West 4th Street.
Prizes will be awarded to the most creative, best pet-owner look-a-like, and the cutest costume! Prizes include FREE doggie daycare, a FREE microchip, a gift card to our store, and much, much more!
The fee is just $10/dog and $5/additional dog/family.
VFW Auxiliary plans Holiday Open House Nov. 9
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary 8884 of Vinton is hosting a Holiday Open House on Saturday-November 9th, 2013 from 9 am-3pm. Everyone can do their Christmas shopping with the Vendors we have coming. There will be breakfast & lunch served by the Vinton VFW Ladies Auxiliary 8884.
The event takes place in the basement of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Urbana, at 402 Ash Ave.
Central Lutheran School Fall Brunch, Oct. 27
Sunday, October 27th Central Lutheran School is having a Fall Brunch from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Be sure to bring your appetite for all the great food - pancakes, eggs, ham and sausage, rolls and muffins, fresh fruit, juice, milk, and coffee. St. Stephen's Nimble Finger Quilters have donated a quilt for a raffle - $1.00 per ticket or 6 for $5.
Garrison's Haunted: Annual fund-raiser to begin Oct. 18
‘Garrison’s Haunted’ is back for a night of frights and ready to rain more terror on those who dare to cross its threshold than ever before. The annual event is a production by the Garrison Firefighters, First Responders, Auxiliary members and a squad of volunteers. The event will be held the evenings of October 18, 19, 25 and 26 from 7 pm to 11 pm. Shellsburg PTO Carnival set for Saturday, Oct. 12
The Shellsburg PTO will be hosting the 2nd Annual Fall Carnival on Oct
12th from 2-4 at Shellsburg Elementary.
The event will include: Face Painting, Games, Balloon Artist, Prizes,
Cotton Candy, Popcorn, Sno Cones, Bike Raffle, and Shellsburg Fire
Department Trucks for kids to explore.
This is a family fun event for children that range in age from
pre-school to 5th grade.
PEO MZ, HG Chapters to meet Oct. 14
PEO Chapter MZ will meet Mon., Oct. 14 at 1:30 PM at the home of Pat Floyd assisted by Brenda Hackbarth. Our Official Visitor will attend.
PEO Chapter HG will meet Monday, October 14 at 6:30 PM at the Ray House for a salad supper. A-H will provide food. Don't forget to bring a small item to put in the gift basket for the offical visitor who will attend our meeting that evening.
Vinton-Shellsburg Golf Outing to support V-S boys and girls teams
There will be a golf outing to support the V-S boys and girls teams.
It is a four person 9 hole best shot to be held Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg at 10:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Entry fee is $30 per person and includes golf, cart, and lunch.
